The party

What does a Punjabi wedding party need from a venue?

Ask any Punjabi family what makes a wedding and you will hear the same things: a packed dance floor, a DJ who reads the room, dhol that you feel in your chest, good food and enough space that nobody has to sit out the bhangra.

The main hall at Maher Centre is 1,100m², single-storey and pillarless. The dance floor goes in front of the stage and every table can see the action. It holds up to 800 guests in a reception layout with a dance floor, so even very large families can all be in one room.

We host Punjabi weddings for Sikh families, whose Anand Karaj takes place at the gurdwara before the reception, and for Hindu Punjabi families, who often hold the mandap ceremony and the party in our hall on the same day.

Entertainment and production

Sound, lights and showstopping moments.

What is included, and what you can add.

Full PA system

A full PA comes with the hall. Your DJ plugs in or brings their own rig. Speeches carry clearly to the back table.

Ambient LED lighting

Set the colour of the room to match your theme, then let the DJ take it up a notch when the bhangra starts.

LED dance floor

An optional LED dance floor turns the centre of the room into the place everyone wants to be.

LED screens

Optional LED side screens and a large 7m LED screen for live relay, couple montages or the first dance close-up.

Cold sparklers

Cold sparklers for the couple’s entrance or first dance. Confetti and pyrotechnics are allowed, subject to written approval.

Tiered front steps

Optional tiered steps up to the stage, perfect for the couple’s walk-in and family photos.

Running order

A running order that works for a Punjabi reception.

Every family is different, but this flow keeps the energy high and the food hot.

Doors and drinks

Guests park on site and are seated. Starters or snacks come out while the DJ warms up the room.

Couple’s entrance

Lights down, dhol up. Sparklers and the 7m screen if you want them.

Dinner

Your caterer serves the main meal from our industrial kitchen. Keep the music lower so families can talk.

Speeches and cake

Short speeches and the cake cutting, clearly heard through the PA.

First dance

Then the family performances that the cousins have practised for weeks.

Bhangra and giddha

The floor opens. Expect boliyan, dhol and everyone on their feet.

Last song

One final bhangra track, the whole family on the floor.

Clean-up included

Suppliers pack down. Our team handles the full venue clean-up.

Food and drink

Menus and the bar.

Your caterer, your menu

Maher Centre does not do in-house catering. Bring the Punjabi caterer you love, or let us introduce you to one from our partner network after we meet you. Caterers work from our industrial kitchen with four burners, free gas supply and refrigeration.

Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre. Chicken, lamb, fish and vegetarian dishes are all welcome.

Corkage and bar hire

The bar is optional. Our three tiers are Essential (corkage and bar facilities), Classic (plus two bar staff) and Signature (plus glassware). We can supply the drinks or point you to a specialist bar company.

Punjabi wedding FAQs

Punjabi wedding questions, answered.

How big a Punjabi wedding party can Maher Centre hold?
Up to 800 guests with a dance floor, 1,000 seated banquet-style, or 1,500 standing. The hall is pillarless, so the dance floor can sit right in front of the stage with every table having a view of it.
Can we bring our own DJ and dhol players?
Yes. Bring the DJ and dhol players you want, or ask us to recommend from our partner network of entertainers who know the venue. The hall has a full PA system and ambient LED lighting.
What time does a Punjabi reception have to finish?
Your full 12-hour booking includes set-up and pack-down, so the bhangra never feels rushed. Our events team will talk you through timings when you book.
Can we have a bar at our Punjabi wedding?
Yes, if you want one. Bar hire is optional and comes in three tiers: corkage and bar facilities, the same with two bar staff, or bar staff plus glassware. We can supply the drinks or refer you to a specialist bar company.
Can our caterer serve meat?
Your caterer decides the menu with you. Chicken, lamb, fish and vegetarian dishes are all common at Punjabi weddings. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre.
Do you host Hindu Punjabi weddings as well as Sikh ones?
Yes. For Hindu Punjabi families we can host the full day, including the mandap and pheras, followed by the reception in the same hall. For Sikh families the Anand Karaj takes place at the gurdwara and we host the reception and pre-wedding events.
Can we have a big entrance with sparklers and smoke?
We love a showstopping moment. Cold sparklers, tiered front steps, an LED dance floor and a 7m LED screen are optional upgrades, and confetti and pyrotechnics are allowed, subject to written approval.
How much does a Punjabi wedding at Maher Centre cost?
Each wedding is quoted individually. The date, guest numbers, bar choice and any upgrades all affect the total. Ask for a free written quote. Our price-match promise covers all packages and optional extras.
