The scale problem

Why is it hard to find a 1,000+ delegate venue in the Midlands?

Once a conference passes about 500 delegates, the shortlist shrinks fast. Hotel ballrooms top out, university halls come with term-time restrictions, and the big purpose-built centres can be a long way from much of your audience. Organisers end up splitting plenaries across rooms, relaying talks by video, or paying for overflow space.

Maher Centre solves that with one open, single-storey hall of 1,100m². There are no pillars and no partition walls to work around. All 1,500 delegates sit in the same room, hear the same keynote and react together. That shared energy is hard to recreate in an overflow suite.

Running it smoothly

What should you plan differently for a 1,000+ delegate conference?

Stagger the arrival

With hundreds of cars arriving, open registration early and spread the doors-open window. Parking is free, and our car park attendants keep traffic moving.

Plan for coaches

If your delegates are travelling as groups, coaches reduce car numbers. Agree drop-off times with us in advance.

Go big on screens

At this scale the back row is a long way from the lectern. Add LED side screens or the large 7m-wide LED screen.

Feed people quickly

Brief your caterer on numbers and service points early. Our partner caterers know how the kitchen and hall work together.

Use the green room

Two private en-suite dressing rooms give keynote speakers, VIPs and production crews a quiet base.

Protect the timings

The 12-hour booking includes set-up and pack-down, so large stage builds aren’t squeezed into an hour.

Catering and AV

How do catering and AV work at this scale?

Maher Centre does not provide catering itself. For large conferences we recommend a caterer from our partner network, teams who have worked the hall many times and know how to serve a thousand plates efficiently. You can also bring your own caterer through the Partner Programme. Caterers work from an industrial kitchen with four burners, a free gas supply and refrigeration. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre.

On AV, the hall has a full PA system, ambient LED lighting and staging as standard, with free guest Wi-Fi for delegates. LED side screens and the large LED screen are optional upgrades. Many large conferences bring a production company for cameras, streaming and show calling; they are welcome, and our event manager will work with them on access and power from the planning stage.

Every quote is written and individual, and our price-match promise applies to packages and optional extras. Compare with other corporate venues in the East Midlands, then come and see the hall. Tours are by appointment.

Common questions

Large conference questions, answered plainly.

Where can I hold a 1,500-delegate conference in the Midlands?
Maher Centre in Leicester seats up to 1,500 delegates theatre-style in a single 1,100m² pillarless hall. It is one of the largest event venues in the Midlands and sits 5 to 10 minutes from M1 Junction 21.
How do delegates travel to Maher Centre from other Midlands cities?
Most arrive by car or coach via the M1 and Junction 21. Birmingham, Nottingham, Coventry and Northampton are all within easy reach. The venue address is 15 Ravensbridge Drive, Leicester LE4 0BZ.
Is there enough parking for a large conference?
The venue has a privately owned, floodlit car park with more than 350 free spaces. For audiences above that, we recommend encouraging car sharing or running coaches from regional pick-up points; talk to us about coach drop-off when you plan your arrival times.
Can a 1,500-person audience see the stage?
The hall has no pillars, so there are no blocked views. For large audiences we recommend the optional LED side screens and the large LED screen, around 7 metres wide, so the back rows can follow slides and speakers.
Can we feed 1,000 delegates?
Yes, through a caterer from our partner network or your own caterer via the Partner Programme. Maher Centre does not cater in-house. Seated banquet capacity is 1,000, and caterers use an industrial kitchen with four burners, free gas and refrigeration. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre.
Can we book more than one day?
Yes. Tell us your dates when you enquire. Each booking is quoted individually based on your dates, layout and extras.
How quickly will I get a quote?
We reply within one working day, with availability and a written quote. You can also call 0116 242 5360 or WhatsApp 07922 424871.
