Maher Centre hosts mehndi nights for Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Punjabi families in a pillarless, air-conditioned hall in Leicester for up to 800 guests with a dance floor. Bring your own mehndi artists, caterer and decorator, park free on site, and dance the night away.
A mehndi is the most relaxed function of the wedding week, but it still has a lot going on. The bride is having intricate henna applied for hours. Aunties want somewhere comfortable to sit. Cousins have practised a dance. Someone has brought a dholki. And everyone needs feeding.
That calls for a venue that can be several spaces at once: a beautiful stage or swing for the bride, stations for mehndi artists, a dance floor, a place for the food and enough seating for the elders. The main hall at Maher Centre is a single, pillarless 1,100m² room, so your decorator can lay it out exactly that way with nothing blocking the view.
It also helps to have the practical side covered. Our event manager and caretaker are on duty throughout, three attendants look after the car park and toilets, and the full clean-up is included, so the family can enjoy the night and save their energy for the wedding.

Four zones most families build into the room. Your decorator brings the furniture and styling.
A low stage, floral swing or lounge at the head of the hall, where the bride sits for her mehndi and greets guests. Optional tiered steps and a chandelier make it a focal point.
Tables for henna artists to work on guests’ hands through the evening. Place them near the stage so the bride stays at the heart of the action.
Room in front of the stage for the dholki, the cousins’ choreographed routine and open dancing. An optional LED dance floor adds sparkle.
Round tables or lounge seating for dinner. Your caterer serves from our industrial kitchen, so hot food stays hot.
The name and customs change from family to family. The venue adapts.
Often combined with a sangeet or a garba evening. Vegetarian and Jain menus are arranged through your caterer. See our sangeet venue page.
Frequently held alongside the jago, with boliyan, giddha and dhol. Read about jago nights at Maher Centre.
Alcohol-free events are completely normal here, the bar is optional, and halal food comes from your caterer. Read our Muslim wedding page.
Some couples hold one large mehndi for both families. With up to 800 on a dance floor, the hall can take a combined guest list.
If you are planning a ladies-only or largely ladies’ evening, talk to us about the layout and what you need from the team on the night.
Planning a haldi earlier in the day? Ask about timings: your booking covers a full 12 hours including set-up and pack-down.
Decorators dress the stage and tables; the caterer prepares in the kitchen. Around two hours is typical.
The bride’s mehndi can start early in a dressing room or on stage while guests arrive.
Food, performances, the dholki and open dancing well into the evening.
Suppliers pack down within your booking and our team cleans up.
