An engagement venue that grows with your guest list.

Engagement guest lists have a habit of growing. It starts as “just close family”, then the aunties hear about it, then the cousins from Birmingham want to come. A home or a restaurant can’t stretch; our hall can.

  • Small engagements: tables grouped close to the stage, warm uplighting and drapes so the room feels full.
  • Mid-size parties: a few hundred guests with a dance floor and a decorated stage for the ring exchange.
  • Large engagements: up to 1,000 seated, or 800 with a dance floor: many families now hold engagements as big as weddings.

Every booking includes a full 12 hours with set-up and pack-down, two private en-suite dressing rooms, ambient LED lighting, a full PA system, an event manager and caretaker on duty, and full clean-up.

Every family marks an engagement differently. Here are the ones we are asked about most.

Punjabi, Hindu & Sikh

Roka

The families formally agree the match and exchange blessings and gifts. Often small and close, sometimes followed by a bigger party.

Punjabi & North Indian

Mangni, kurmai and sagai

The ring ceremony and engagement party, with gifts, shagun, music and dancing. Sikh families may hold a kurmai at the gurdwara first, then celebrate here.

Gujarati

Gol dhana and chandlo matli

Before you send the invitations.

Is Maher Centre too big for a small engagement party?
Not at all. The hall is one large space, but tables can be grouped around the stage and your décor partner can use drapes, uplighting and furniture to make a smaller party feel full and intimate. Tell us your numbers and we’ll suggest a layout.
Can we hold a roka, mangni or sagai at Maher Centre?
Yes. We host roka, mangni, kurmai, sagai and ring ceremonies, Gujarati gol dhana and chandlo matli, Muslim mangni and nisbat gatherings, and engagement parties of every culture. Your priest, granthi, imam or family elders lead the rituals; we provide the stage, sound and space.
Can we hold our nikah at the engagement?
Yes. Some Muslim families hold the nikah at an engagement-style gathering, with the rukhsati and walima following later. The stage, PA and segregated layouts work for this. See our nikah venue page for more on how the ceremony runs here.
Can we bring our own caterer for an engagement party?
Yes. Maher Centre does not do catering, so you choose a caterer from our partner network or your own. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre, which suits vegetarian and halal menus alike.
Can we have a bar at our engagement party?
If you want one. Corkage and bar hire are optional, in three tiers. Alcohol-free engagements are just as welcome, and very common here.
If we hold our engagement here, can we book the wedding too?
Of course. Many families like to see the hall in action before the big day. Popular Saturdays and festival dates book up early, so if you already have a wedding date in mind, ask about it when you enquire.
