What Maher Centre offers for a Muslim wedding.

We have been hosting Leicester families since 1996, and we welcome Muslim families of every background (Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Gujarati, Somali, Arab, Kurdish, Afghan and mixed-heritage) each with their own way of doing things. What they share is a need for space, privacy where it matters, and a venue team that doesn’t need everything explained twice.

The banquet hall is 1,100m², single-storey and pillarless. That matters more for a Muslim wedding than most: when you divide the room into a men’s side and a women’s side, nobody ends up stuck behind a pillar or squeezed into a corner, and both sides get a clear view of the stage.

  • 1,000 seated for a banquet, 800 with a dance floor or open stage area
  • Two private en-suite dressing rooms: handy for the bride and her family, or one for each side
  • Industrial kitchen for your caterer: 4 burners, free gas supply, refrigeration
  • Event manager and caretaker on duty, three car park and WC attendants, full clean-up included
  • A full 12-hour booking, so nothing ever feels rushed

Which Muslim wedding events can you hold at Maher Centre?

Families use the hall for one event or several. Here is how each one usually works here.

Before the wedding

Mehndi and dholki nights

Music, henna and family performances, usually for a smaller crowd. The LED lighting and PA make a big room feel like a party. See our mehndi venue page.

The ceremony

Nikah

An imam, the wali, two witnesses, the mahr agreed and the ijab and qabul: done on the stage or a raised platform with family seated close. More on our nikah venue page.

The big day

Wedding reception and rukhsati

Often hosted by the bride’s family: the baraat arrives, the couple take the stage, dinner is served and the evening closes with the emotional rukhsati as the bride leaves with her new family.

After the wedding

Walima

The groom’s family hosts the walima feast, often the largest gathering of all. Read our walima venue page for layouts and timings.

Engagements

Mangni and nisbat

A ring exchange or a formal family agreement, sometimes with the nikah held early. See engagement parties.

Somali weddings

Aroos celebrations

Big guest lists and late-night dancing. Our Somali wedding page covers the details.

Layouts

Can the hall be split for segregated seating?

Yes, and because there are no pillars, it splits cleanly. These are the layouts families ask for most.

Two sides, one aisle

Men on one side, women on the other, a wide central aisle to the stage. Both sides see the couple and the nikah clearly.

Fully divided

Add screens or draped partitions down the centre through your décor partner. Each side gets its own food service route so nobody crosses over.

Family sections

Mixed seating for close family near the stage, with separate men’s and women’s sections behind. Common for walimas with a wide guest list.

Ladies-only events

Some families hold a women-only reception or mehndi. Tell us at planning stage and we’ll talk through staffing and who needs to enter the hall during the event.

Stage and photos

The stage sits at the head of the room for the couple, with space in front for family photos without blocking anyone’s view.

Children and elders

Keep older relatives near the stage and the toilets, and put families with young children near the exits for quick breaks.

Salah and wudu

How do prayer times work during a wedding here?

A long wedding day will usually cross one or two prayer times, and in winter Maghrib and Isha can fall right in the middle of the reception. Plan for it up front and it fits in neatly.

  • Agree a prayer space. We don’t have a dedicated prayer room, so families choose a quiet, clean area with the event manager when the layout is planned. Some bring prayer mats and a simple screen.
  • Plan for wudu. Look at the washroom facilities on your tour and decide how guests will make wudu, so there is no queue at the wrong moment.
  • Put prayer into the running order. Ask your MC or DJ to pause the music and announce salah, and time dinner service so food isn’t going cold while guests pray.
  • Check the season. Jamaat times shift a lot through the year. Your 12-hour booking leaves room to move the programme around them.

Catering and drinks

Halal food and an alcohol-free celebration.

Halal catering from the caterer you trust

Maher Centre does not do catering. You choose the caterer: someone from our partner network who already knows the kitchen and the running of the hall, or your own family favourite. Third-party caterers are welcomed through our Partner Programme.

Because the caterer is your choice, so is the halal standard. Ask them for their certification and where their meat comes from. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre, which many families find reassuring. Chicken, lamb, mutton, goat, fish and vegetarian dishes are all fine.

Your caterer gets an industrial kitchen with four burners, a free gas supply and refrigeration, so they can cook on site or finish food brought from their own kitchen.

No bar unless you ask for one

Alcohol-free events are completely normal at Maher Centre. The corkage and bar hire packages are optional, and you won’t be nudged towards them. Many families set up a mocktail, juice or chai station instead: your caterer or a drinks specialist from our network can run it.

Making the room your own

Choose an optional banqueting package (Essential, Classic or Signature) for chairs, round tables, linen, crockery and serving ware, or go bespoke. Add a crystal chandelier, tiered front steps, LED side screens or a 7m-wide LED screen so guests at the back of the room see every moment. Our price-match promise covers all packages and optional extras.

Muslim wedding FAQs

Your questions, answered plainly.

Can Maher Centre set the hall up for segregated seating?
Yes. The banquet hall is pillarless, so it divides cleanly into separate men’s and women’s sides with a central aisle, or into separate sections for each family. Your décor partner can add screens or drapes if you want a fuller divide. Tell us your layout at the planning meeting and the event manager will set the room to match.
Is the food halal?
Maher Centre does not do catering. Your food comes from a caterer in our partner network or a caterer you choose yourself, so you decide the halal standard and can ask your caterer for their certification. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre.
Do we have to have a bar?
No. Alcohol-free weddings are completely normal here. The corkage and bar hire packages are optional extras, and most Muslim weddings we host simply don’t book them.
Is there somewhere for guests to pray?
We don’t have a dedicated prayer room. Families usually agree a quiet, clean area for salah with the event manager when planning the layout, and build prayer times into the running order. Come and see the space on a tour so you can plan it properly.
Can we hold the nikah and walima at Maher Centre?
Yes. Some families hold the nikah and reception on one day, others book separate days for the nikah, the wedding reception and the walima. Each booking is a full 12 hours including set-up and pack-down, so there is time to change the room between parts of the day.
How many guests can a Muslim wedding at Maher Centre have?
Up to 1,000 guests seated for a banquet, or 800 with a dance floor or open stage area. The same hall works well for smaller weddings of a few hundred guests too.
How much does a Muslim wedding at Maher Centre cost?
Every wedding is quoted individually, based on your date, guest numbers, the banqueting package you choose and any optional upgrades. Ask for a free written quote. Our price-match promise covers all packages and optional extras.
