Maher Centre hosts Punjabi jago nights for up to 800 guests with a dance floor in a pillarless, air-conditioned hall in Leicester. Bring the gagar, the dhol and the whole nanke side. Our 350+ space private car park means no street parking, and no complaints from next door.
Traditionally the jago went from house to house, with the nanke carrying the decorated pot lit with diyas, singing boliyan and waking the street. It is still one of the most joyful nights of a Punjabi wedding. But in a modern Leicester street, with neighbours, parked cars and the British weather, it can be hard to do it justice.
A venue solves the practical problems. There is room for every aunty to dance, a dance floor that will not spill into a neighbour’s garden, toilets for everyone and a kitchen for your caterer. The dhol can be as loud as you like, and nobody is calling the council at 11pm.
At Maher Centre, the jago can still have its procession. The nanke can gather in our private car park, light up the gagar and dance their way to the entrance, with the family waiting inside to welcome them.

A common pattern. Your family’s customs lead the way.
Your decorator, caterer and DJ arrive at the start of the booking. Around two hours is usually plenty.
Many families hold the maiyan, vatna or mehndi earlier in the evening, with close family around the bride or groom.
Your caterer serves from our industrial kitchen. Hot food for a hungry crowd before the dancing.
The maternal family gather outside, light the gagar and make their entrance with dhol and boliyan.
The circle forms. Boliyan, teasing songs and dancing with the pot held high.
Once the traditional part is done, the DJ fills the floor for the rest of the night.
Suppliers pack down and our team handles the full venue clean-up.
Diyas and candles in the pot are central to the jago. Clear any live flame with us first. LED diyas are a popular alternative indoors.
Bring your own dhol players or ask us for a recommendation from our partner network.
A full PA system and ambient LED lighting come with the hall. Dim the lights for the gagar entrance and the diyas really glow.
Leave a large open floor for the giddha circle. The pillarless hall means no obstacles in the middle.
Seating for older relatives around the edge of the floor, air conditioning throughout and parking on site.
Optional cold sparklers and an LED dance floor. We love a showstopping moment; confetti and pyrotechnics are welcome, subject to written approval.
Many families book the jago at Maher Centre a night or two before the wedding. For Sikh families, the Anand Karaj then takes place at the gurdwara and the reception follows at our hall. For Hindu Punjabi families, the mandap ceremony and reception can both be held here.
Each event has its own full 12-hour booking. We quote them together so you can see the whole wedding in one place.
