The short answer: the cost of an Asian wedding in Leicester depends mostly on how many guests you invite, which day and season you choose, how many functions you hold, and what the venue includes as standard. Catering is usually priced per head by your caterer, so guest count multiplies through the whole budget. At the Maher Centre, every wedding is quoted individually in writing, the hire includes an event manager, attendants, parking and full clean-up, and our price-match promise covers all packages and optional extras.
You will not find a price list in this guide, and that is on purpose. Any figure we printed would be wrong for most families: a weekday mehndi for a few hundred guests and a Saturday reception for a full hall are completely different events. What we can do is show you where the money goes, so you can build a realistic budget and ask venues the right questions.
What are the biggest factors in the cost of an Asian wedding?
Guest count
Guest numbers are the single biggest driver. They decide the size of venue you need, and they multiply every per-head cost: food, chairs, linen, favours, invitations, sweets boxes. Asian weddings often invite extended family and community, so agree a guest list for each side early and treat it as the foundation of your budget. Trimming the list is usually the most effective saving available.
Day of the week and season
Saturdays are the most requested day, and peak wedding season and festival periods are in high demand. Fridays, Sundays and weekdays are often more flexible. If your family is happy with a non-Saturday date, ask each venue whether that changes the quote. Popular Saturdays and festival dates book up early, so flexibility on the date is worth more the later you book.
Number of functions
A Hindu wedding might include a mehndi, sangeet or garba, pithi, ceremony and reception. A Muslim wedding might include a mehndi, nikah and walima; a Sikh wedding a jago, the Anand Karaj at the gurdwara and a reception. Each function held at a venue is usually a separate booking with its own catering, décor and staffing. Decide which events truly need a large hall and which could be held at home, at a place of worship or in a smaller space.
Venue hire vs packages
Some venues quote a single package price that bundles hire, furniture, catering and décor. Others quote "dry hire" (the room only) and leave you to source everything else. Neither is automatically cheaper. A package can hide items you do not want; dry hire can hide items you assumed were included. Always ask for an itemised quote so you can compare like for like.

How is wedding catering priced?
Caterers usually price per head, and the rate depends on the menu style (buffet, served, live cooking stations), the number of courses, starters and desserts, chai or drinks stations, and how many serving staff they bring. Vegetarian, Jain and halal menus each have their own considerations. Get at least two caterer quotes for the same menu and the same headcount.
The Maher Centre does not provide catering, so we never mark up your food. You choose a caterer from our partner network, teams who know the venue inside out, or bring your own. Beef and pork are not served on the grounds of the Maher Centre. Your caterer has an industrial kitchen with burners, a free gas supply and refrigeration, which matters: a caterer who has to bring generators or extra equipment will usually reflect that in their price.
Décor, stage and furniture
Décor can be a modest share of the budget or a very large one. The main drivers are the stage or mandap design, fresh versus artificial flowers, the number of centrepieces (one per table, so guest count again), chair style, lighting and any special features.
At the Maher Centre, three optional banqueting packages keep this simple:
- Essential: red banquet chairs, round tables, linen, cutlery and crockery, linen napkins and serving ware.
- Classic: everything in Essential, with banquet chairs dressed in chair covers.
- Signature: everything in Essential, with Chiavari chairs.
Bespoke packages are available on request. Optional upgrades (a crystal chandelier, tiered front steps, an LED dance floor, cold sparklers, LED side screens or a large LED screen) can be added one at a time, so you only pay for what matters to you. Your event manager will help you design your vision and our décor partners can quote for the rest.
Entertainment and extras
DJs, dhol players, live singers, photographers, videographers, mehndi artists, hair and make-up: each is priced by its supplier, and costs rise for longer hours and peak dates. Ask every supplier what time they arrive and leave, what is included, and whether travel is extra. Our partner network includes DJs and other suppliers who already know the venue's layout and sound system.
The hidden costs that catch families out
These are the items that rarely appear on the first quote but often appear on the final invoice. Ask about each one.
- Parking. Venues without enough private parking can leave guests paying for car parks or risking fines. Parking at the Maher Centre is free: a large privately-owned floodlit car park with attendants: save a fortune on parking fines.
- Set-up and pack-down time. Some venues charge separately for supplier access before and after the event. Every Maher Centre booking covers a full twelve hours including set-up and pack-down.
- Clean-up. Some venues charge for cleaning or require you to arrange it. Full venue clean-up is included at the Maher Centre.
- Staffing. Is there an event manager on the day? Who manages the car park and toilets? Our hire includes an event manager, a caretaker and three car park and WC attendants.
- Furniture and linen. Room-only hire may not include tables, chairs or linen at all.
- Bar and corkage. Some venues require a minimum bar spend. At the Maher Centre, corkage and bar hire are optional, and alcohol-free events are completely normal.
- Kitchen access. Some venues restrict which caterers can use the kitchen or charge for access. Ask in writing.
How to compare venue quotes fairly
- Send every venue the same brief: date options, guest numbers, functions, start and finish times.
- Ask for an itemised written quote, not a verbal figure.
- List what is included (staff, parking, furniture, linen, clean-up, set-up time) side by side.
- Add the missing items to each quote so you are comparing complete costs.
- Check the hours. A shorter booking with paid overtime can cost more than a longer one.
- Visit in person. At the Maher Centre, tours are by appointment and take about half an hour.
- Ask about price matching. Our price-match promise covers all packages and optional extras.
Simple ways to keep an Asian wedding on budget
- Fix the guest list before booking anything.
- Be flexible on the day or season if your family can.
- Combine or downsize smaller functions.
- Choose a venue where staff, parking and clean-up are already included.
- Spend décor money where guests look most: the stage, the entrance and the head table.
- Use suppliers who know the venue, so set-up is faster and surprises are fewer.
